About us

The Canadian Centre for the Study of Higher Education (CCSHE) was founded in 2006 in response to 2 related realities:

  • There is a significant gap in the knowledge and resources available to educators, leaders and researchers with respect to Canadian postsecondary students and their experiences.

  • There is a  need for a co-ordinated and integrated approach to collecting and communicating Canadian research and providing professional development and training opportunities on learning and learners which respects both the unique potential of graduate programs of higher education in Canada and the public interest in this information.

Since the Faculty of Education at the University of Calgary has one of the few graduate programs in Canada offering a Higher Education Leadership specialization and has faculty members with an interest in this initiative, CCSHE was proposed and officially approved and supported by both the Dean of the Faculty of Education, and the Vice President, Research of the University in 2006. CCHE will play a catalytic role in increasing the knowledge base about learners and leaders in Higher Education in Canada, as well as initiating educational opportunities for leaders and initiating and/or communicating curiosity-driven and market-based research findings about learners and learning in higher education.

We also support and encourage collaborative connections among other research and educational Centres both within and outside Canada with related areas of research focus and interst and would like to establish formal connections with CCSHE in these fields of study in the near future.
