Thank You to Our Donors

The success of the Smith Centre's brain tumor research program depends upon the commitment and teamwork of many - our researchers, clinicians, and professional staff, the patients who choose to participate in research, and the financial support of funding agencies and private donors. We are pleased and honoured to recognize the generous support of some of these donors below:

Clark H. Smith Gift

Clark SmithClark SmithClark H. Smith was born in Sarnia, Ontario, and attended the University of Toronto, where he graduated with a degree in Engineering Physics.  After working for 3 years in Talara, Peru, he finished an MBA at Stanford University.  He returned to Canada in 1957 and settled in Calgary.  His professional career included Imperial Oil, Sproule & Associates, and Dekalb.

He joined International Petrodata Limited (IPL) in the 1970s as president, and later as owner.  IPL was the industry leader for forty years in supplying accurate wellbore data.  Under his direction, IPL led the evolution of the delivery of basic and interpreted data for oil and gas wells drilled across Canada from paper, through microfilm to online solutions.

Clark was diagnosed with an oligodendroglioma brain tumour in 1996, and had surgery and chemotherapy treatment at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre at the Foothills Medical Centre.  The brain cancer reappeared terminally in 2001.

His wife, Jane Smith, and son, Tony Smith, are pleased to have made the founding donation for the Clark H. Smith Brain Tumour Centre in 2004 after the sale of IPL.
