While it may be true that hard work is a recipe for success, when you’re consistently clocking extra hours and stressing over deadlines, the only thing you’re setting yourself up for is a fast track to burning out.

A healthier, more sustainable approach means building resiliency by making room for the five factors of flourishing: playing, learning, connecting, interacting and helping.

Hosted by the SU Wellness Centre and Human Resources with the support of the Campus Mental Health StrategyUFlourish is a series of events, activities and workshops that build personal resilience and positive mental health at UCalgary.

This year, students, faculty, staff and postdoctoral scholars can focus on flourishing from Oct. 9 to 12 in three key ways:

  1. Active events: Whether you want to explore the spiritual science of Kundalini yoga, stretch out and relax at Happy Hips Hatha yoga, or get your pulse pounding at Jazzercise, there are several ways to get active on campus.
  2. Workshops: Express yourself through creative art, discuss cultural ways of wellness or learn how to build resiliency at one of UFlourish’s many workshops.
  3. Wellness Fair: Connect with more than 50 campus and community resources at informational and interactive booths on Oct. 10 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Mac Hall A/B. Swing by early to snag some swag and free food.

UFlourish is Oct. 9 to 12. Visit the UFlourish webpage for the complete schedule of events and follow the conversation at #UFlourish2018.

The University of Calgary’s Campus Mental Health Strategy is a bold commitment to the importance of mental health and well-being of our university family. Our vision is to be a community where we care for each other, learn and talk about mental health and well-being, receive support as needed, and individually and collectively realize our full potential.
