"In 1810, Eugène François Vidocq, in return for a suspension of arrest and a jail sentence, made a deal with the police to establish the first detective force, the Sûreté of Paris" (Rudin, 1999).

"Alexandre Lacassagne (1844-1921) - France - the founder of modern forensic science, began the science of ballistics" (Rudin, 1999).

"Mathieu Orfila (1787-1853) - France - the Father of Toxicology, worked in Paris and testified in an arsenic poisoning criminal trial in 1840. Science of Experimental Toxicology was founded as a result of numerous experiments with arsenic on animals, tracing the course of the poison as it travels through the body, conducted by Orfila"(Rudin, 1999).

"Alphonse Bertillon's (1853-1914) France - developed anthropometry (or personal identification) system using a series of body and facial measurements for individualization, developed in 1882 was a pioneering contributor to the emerging field of forensics" (Rudin, 1999).
