(2002).
When catastrophe happens: Assessment and intervention
after sudden traumatic death. Journal of Psychosocial
Nursing & Mental Health Services, 40(4),
30-40. Retrieved July 28, 2002, from ProQuest database.
- When
a family member, friend, or colleague dies as the
result of a sudden traumatic death, it can be perceived
as a catastrophic event. The effect of the death
may result in significant disruption to the structure,
function, and reorganization of those struggling
to adapt to the sudden loss. Attempts at homeostasis
and functional grieving may be interrupted by complicating
issues related to the dynamics of sudden traumatic
death and can be affected by current problem-solving
skills and methods of coping employed by the surviving
individuals.

the forensic
nurse as an integral part of the criminal investigative
team. Forensic Nurse Magazine. Retrieved Oct 15,
2002, from http://www.forensicnursemag.com/articles/2a1perspect.html
- It
was a cold chilly day. On Ward C of the U.S.
Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center there
was a different kind of chill that penetrated the
floor. It was a deep eerie feeling; patients were
dying unexpectedly from sudden cardiac arrest. Three
nurses came together and voiced their suspicions.
It was every hospital's nightmare. There was a killer
among them, one who coldly and callously killed
four men and attempted to kill three others by injecting
them with the heart stimulant epinephrine."
