The 'recommended only' readings for this unit are the following:

Unit.D.8.2. Forensic Correctional/Prison Research

Australia
Recommended Reading(s)
Doyle, J. (1999). A qualitative study of factors influencing

psychiatric nursing practice in Australian prisons. Perspectives in Psychiatric Care, 35 (1), 29-35.

  • To study issues of concern to nurses delivering mental health care to offenders, a praxis research approach was chosen (Lather, 1991). Praxis research, also called applied research, was selected for its potential to produce data that would be meaningful and utilitarian for subjects themselves, as well as for forensic nurses. Research for praxis values the equitable, accessible, and democratic dissemination of findings to the researched for their benefit.
