Joseph Carere
MSc
Research Coordinator
Joseph is an MD/MSc student in the Leader’s in Medicine joint degree program at the University of Calgary’s Cumming School of Medicine. He is also Research Coordinator for the Sport Injury Prevention Research Centre. Joseph completed the MSc portion of his degree in September 2023 in which he researched long-term physiological outcomes following adolescent sport related concussion. Joseph will begin medical school studies in July 2024, with an anticipated graduation from the MD/MSc program in 2027. In his current role as a research coordinator, Joseph’s focus is on collection of epidemiological and physiological data, as well as research knowledge translation to communities. Prior to his current roles (MD/MSc, Research Coordinator), Joseph attended the University of Toronto where he obtained his bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology and Physical Education in 2020. During his undergraduate campaign, Joseph acquired a special interest in concussion, sport medicine, and sport injury prevention. He has also dealt with persisting post-concussion symptoms since a hockey incident in 2015. Joseph’s personal concussion experience has guided his passion to perform sport injury research and to promote health within his community.
