Biography

Born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, Erika B. was strongly influenced by her family to help others; this led her to volunteering for Inn From the Cold, the Drop-In Centre and the Wing Kei Care Centre.

In the greater community, Erika has always thought of herself as a world citizen, frequently travelling and experiencing new things. Most recently, she spent a summer in Quebec where she worked full time with children who have autism. Erika also spent six-months in China while her father taught English and she spent three-months in France where she participated in a language and cultural exchange program. Erika has also been to Spain and Montreal with her high school musical ensembles. Music is her favourite hobby, and is her way of relaxing and connecting with others.

Erika is currently entering her first year at the university, where she’ll be studying to become a teacher. She’s already taken advantage of opportunities to volunteer as a teacher and tutor at her school and her church. Throughout her years in grade school, Erika was always inspired by her teachers to be a diligent learner with top marks in every subject. She felt the spark of curiosity that teachers helped to ignite in her, and because of this inspiration, Erika wants to become a teacher to create inquisitive learners in her turn.
