Encounters with German Culture

German culture - a history of extremes? Explores this dimension through selected topics such as the culture of revolution, media and propaganda, "supermen" real and imagined, nature and environment, religious protest, and political dissidence.

General strategies for the decoding of texts. Specific strategies and skills for understanding the content of moderately difficult texts with diverse content, discourse styles, and from a variety of disciplines. Delivered by computer.

Challenging the German Text

Study of authentic German texts of various types (e.g. literary, journalistic, informational) with the goal of improving reading comprehension and textual analysis skills. Practice in articulating abstract and complex ideas orally and in writing.
