Bart Becker joined the University of Calgary as vice-president (facilities) on Feb. 1, 2014.
Bart joins the University of Calgary with 20 years of experience in post-secondary education, municipal projects and engineering consulting. In his most recent role as associate vice-president of facilities and operations at the University of Alberta, he provided project oversight on major capital and planning projects with an annual capital budget of more than $100 million and an operating budget of more than $150 million. During his time with the university, he led nearly $1 billion in major capital development on the campus. He also created and led a large team, empowering them to shape the mission and vision of the portfolio.
Previous to his work with the University of Alberta, Bart held positions as operations manager at Stantec Consulting and as project director for the City of Edmonton’s South LRT Extension Project.
Bart is a member of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta and the Society for College and University Planning. He has published papers on project management strategies and risk management planning. He is currently a board member for the 2015 PanAm Juniors in Track and Field and a former board member for the Francis Winspear Centre for Music and the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra.
