Kate Hamilton is the Vice-President (External Relations) at the University of Calgary. This role encompasses a broad portfolio including: government relations; global partnerships and international relations; community engagement; industry partnerships; and communications.   

Reporting directly to the President, Kate is a key member of the university’s executive leadership team and plays a central role in advancing the university’s relationships, partnerships, engagement, and reputation with our external community. 

Kate joined the University of Calgary in 2019 as the Executive Director and Chief of Staff for the Office of the President. In 2023, she became Associate Vice-President of Strategy & Performance where she supported the creation and implementation of the strategic plan, Ahead of Tomorrow.   

Prior to joining the University of Calgary, Kate worked for the Government of Alberta, as the Chief of Staff to Deputy Ministers at Executive Council and the Ministry of Health, among other roles. She has worked for the federal government and with several federal government agencies including Health Canada, the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer, and Transport Canada. She has also worked for the Ontario provincial government in the Ministry of Natural Resources.  Kate also has considerable community volunteer experience, having served in the past as a Board Member for the United Way, on the Organizing Committee for the Terry Fox Run, and as a Board Member for the Make-A-Wish Queen’s Foundation, to name a few. 

Kate holds a Bachelor of Science (BSc) Honours in Biology & Health Sciences from Queen’s University, a Master of Public Health (MPH) in Health Policy from the University of Alberta and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Finance from the University of Calgary.
