Why study abroad? A picture is worth a thousand words
Each year, University of Calgary International (UCI) receives over 200 entries to the International Photo Contest, submitted to three categories: People, Place and Bucket List Item, for over $400 worth of prizes.
“The photo contest gives students a chance to showcase the amazing people and places they’ve encountered while studying abroad, and gives the campus community just a taste of the unforgettable experiences that studying abroad can provide,” says Colleen Packer, director, international learning programs. “We want it to inspire other students to look into all of the ways they can internationalize their degree and see that there really is something for everyone.”
With close to 3,000 votes, in-person and online, the campus community choose their favourite photos for our People’s Choice category. The rest of the categories were chosen by a panel of judges for their composition, style, and expression of international experience.
Congratulations to all the winners and thank you to everyone who participated in this year’s UCI International Photo Contest. Students are encouraged to continuing sharing their study abroad experiences by tagging @UCalgaryAbroad on social media! To view more photo submissions, please visit the UCI website or Facebook page.
If you are interested in capturing your own study abroad photo memories, now is the best time to apply for funding, with awards of $1,000 to $7,500 available. Funding deadlines are coming up mid-March.
