What to bring if you’re living in residence
Bedding. A mattress pad/topper and pillow cover are essential. You’ll be cozy and keep your mattress and pillow clean. Make sure you bring a supply of sheets and pillow cases, as well as a comforter.
Shower supplies. You’ll want a waterproof caddy to keep your items in as well as flip flops for the shower. Remember to pack a few towels as well.
Clothes hangers. Don’t bring too many clothes though. Unless you’re an international student who won’t be home until the end of the school year, pack enough for the fall and a coat for rain and/or light snow to tide you over until you go home for Thanksgiving.
Depending on your program, you may need to consider whether you’ll need business attire. In that case, you may want to consider bringing along a handheld clothes steamer.
A shoe rack is a good way to keep your footwear out of the way. Make sure it’s small and can be easily tucked into a corner where it won’t be in the way.
Laundry basket and supplies – detergent, dryer sheets, fabric softener. Whatever you are used to using at home.
Medication you take at home. It’s also a good idea to have your own first aid kit and cold medication as well as tissues.
Don’t forget to bring some small personal items to make the place feel more like home.
