Welcome (back) to the School of Creative and Performing Arts

Procedures to keep everyone safe

The start of this academic year will be a new experience for everyone. Whether you’re a student starting or continuing your degree program, whether you’re faculty or staff, we’re all in this together. By being kind, patient and flexible, we can create a community of caring as we navigate these new and ever-changing circumstances together.

Safety is our number one priority and the university and SCPA have developed some procedures to keep everyone safe. Please read through this communication carefully and don’t hesitate to contact us at scpa@ucalgary.ca with questions.

This fall, the Dance, Drama and Music Divisions will offer:

  • in-person courses on campus
  • online courses
  • combined in-person and online courses

If you’re enrolled in a course that requires you to come to campus, please make sure you follow the UCalgary COVID-19 protocols. Check this webpage often, as the protocols are being updated as new information becomes available. Please stay home if you don’t have to be on campus! The onus is on all of us to prevent COVID-19 from spreading and keep our community safe.

Here are a few key points or you can check the COVID-19 safety guide for students on campus:

  • Face covering protocols: everyone is required to wear face coverings in all UCalgary indoor public areas such as hallways, washrooms, and elevators. In classrooms, students can remove face coverings once seated or once they are in their designated space, as long as they maintain a two-metre distance from others. Drama and Dance courses may have course-specific requirements regarding face coverings and distancing; please make sure to consult your course outline for this information.
  • Maintain a physical distance of 2 metres from other people.
  • Regularly wash your hands and use hand sanitizer. While there are many hand sanitizer stations on campus, we encourage you to carry sanitizer as well.
  • Follow all signage
  • COVID-19 procedure for sick students: do not come to campus if you are sick or symptomatic and contact your instructor asap.
  • If you traveled internationally, you must quarantine for 14 days.

  • In order to discourage gatherings on campus, the lounge spaces in Craigie Hall, as well as the student societies are closed. If you have to be on campus in between classes, there are limited computers and study spaces are available in TFDL that must be booked.
  • Food options: The Landing, as well as most food services in MacHall have re-opened. Other food vendors may be open.
  • Water options: bring you own filled water bottle; water fountains in Craigie Hall are closed.
