Honorary Degrees and Order of the University of Calgary for fall convocation 2011

We are pleased to announce the Honorary Degree recipients and the Order of the University of Calgary recipient for the Fall 2011 Convocation. These accomplished individuals have made a significant difference in their local and national communities. You will learn more about these recipients as we honour them over the next few weeks.

Honorary Degrees

The Honorary Degree, the University of Calgary’s highest academic honour, is conferred upon individuals who have achieved an extraordinary standard of excellence in their chosen fields. The following individuals will receive the degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa:

John R. (Jack) Perraton, C.M., Q.C. is the past Chair of the Board of Governors and Chancellor Emeritus of the University of Calgary. Mr. Perraton contributed more than 12 years of generous leadership to the university. He will be recognized at the Nov. 10 morning convocation ceremony.

Joan Snyder is a Calgary philanthropist who is noted for her exceptional inspiration to women in sport and excellence in medical research. She will be recognized at the Nov. 10 afternoon convocation ceremony.

The Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, C.C., C.M.M., C.O.M., C.D. served generously as the Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada from 2005 to 2010, and is currently the UNESCO Special Envoy for Haiti and Co-President of the Michaëlle Jean Foundation. Her honorary degree will be conferred at a special convocation ceremony on Nov. 17.

Order of the University of Calgary

The Order of the University of Calgary is awarded to those who have a record of exemplary and distinguished service to the university.

Lynne Cowe Falls, PhD is the Director of Students for the Schulich School of Engineering and Associate Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering. She will be recognized at the Nov. 10 convocation ceremony for her outstanding contribution to student success.
