Campus Tour room launch

On Thursday, March 4, faculty and staff are invited to help kick off the University of Calgary’s new official space dedicated to welcoming prospective students, guests, and the general public  as part of the revitalized Campus Tour program.

“We’re very excited about the new tour room and the future of the campus tours program,” said Dan Seneker, Associate Director of Student Recruitment. “Campus visits play a vital role in showcasing all that the U of C has to offer prospective students and greatly influences their decision on whether to apply and enrol.”

Guests are invited to come between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Thursday to view the new space and learn more about the campus tours program, including when weekly tours are given, how to book a tour, and who to contact with tour requests.

The Campus Tour room is located in Room 110 on the main floor of the MacKimmie Library Link, a space that had been used for everything from classes, meetings, training sessions, and storage.  It will act as the start and end point for campus tours and features a reception desk, furnished meeting/ waiting area, flat screen television for presentations as well as campus brochures and print materials. The red outside wall is adorned with an enormous “Welcome to the University of Calgary” message and school crest, while the spacious and brightly decorated interior has Dinosaur footprints climbing the walls and a 20-foot tall Rex picture that greets guests as they enter.

“The aesthetics of the Campus Tours room are going to become a focal point on campus,” states Jody Crowe, Manager of Events and Conversion Campaigns, including the tours program. “We have strategically chosen decorations and visuals that are going to leave a great first impression and lasting impact on our guests. Our hope is that they will leave campus with small taste of our U of C pride.”

In addition to viewing the tour room and learning more about the campus tours program, guests will have the opportunity to meet the campus tours team, including members of the Tour Crew, a group of dedicated student volunteers who guide guests around campus while sharing their experiences in and outside the classroom, as well as their love for the U of C.
