University of Calgary receives draft Letter of Expectation from government

UToday HomeMarch 26, 2013

A message from President Elizabeth Cannon:

The University of Calgary received a draft Letter of Expectation from the Government of Alberta late on Friday, March 22. The letter outlines the expectations the government has of the University of Calgary, following the tabling of the provincial budget on March 7.

The executive leadership team is currently reviewing the letter and has shared it with the Board of Governors. The University of Calgary’s letter is posted on our website and you can find the letters to Alberta’s post-secondary institutions on the government’s website.

This is a draft letter. We have been invited to share our feedback during a meeting with the Deputy Premier and Minister of Enterprise and Advanced Education, Thomas Lukaszuk, and all presidents of Campus Alberta on April 11. As we prepare our response, we want to include input and ideas gathered as part of a broad consultation with the Board, Senate, campus community, and business and community leaders. The response we develop to the Letter of Expectation will be shared with the campus community.

I invite students, faculty and staff to share their feedback by April 3 here:

There is much to consider and discuss as we work through the details of the Letter of Expectation. We are committed to working with the provincial government, and with our communities both inside and outside the university, in order to achieve the best possible post-secondary system in Alberta within a challenging fiscal framework.
