Remembering Harley Hotchkiss

UToday HomeJune 23, 2011

Hearts are heavy across campus as we remember one of our community’s most outstanding citizens, Dr. Harley N. Hotchkiss, CC, AOE who passed away yesterday after a lengthy battle with cancer. “Harley Hotchkiss was one of the university’s most passionate champions, and his legacy will live on for generations,” says Dr. Elizabeth Cannon, president and vice chancellor.

Through his vision and generosity, the Hotchkiss Brain Institute is now an internationally recognized centre in neurological and mental health research. “Harley's commitment and support of the Hotchkiss Brain Institute (HBI) went well beyond his generous gifts,” says HBI Director Dr. Samuel Weiss. “His inspiring leadership in giving back to the community, and teaching us the responsibility we all share in contributing to the care of those in need are at the foundation of our Institute. Harley's spirit of friendship, generosity and collaboration will forever be the heart and soul of the HBI.”

Harley Hotchkiss will be greatly missed by his many friends, colleagues and admirers at the university, in the city, and around the world.

A memorial service for Harley Hotchkiss will be held at First Alliance Church on Wednesday, June 29, 2011.
