The cauldron was reinstalled by ATCO Gas on Jan. 23 at the north entrance of the Olympic Oval underneath the red spire — the same place it was installed 25 years ago for the 1988 Winter Olympics.

The cauldron is a timely gift from ATCO Gas to mark the Olympic Oval’s quarter-century milestone and its place as a legacy facility for the City of Calgary at the University of Calgary.

On Feb. 13, the silver anniversary of the opening ceremonies in Calgary, the Olympic Oval will host a Celebrate ‘88 Legacy Day.

The day begins with Reignite the Spirit, an afternoon torch ceremony with Olympic athletes, University of Calgary representatives and dignitaries from the City of Calgary.

Following the torch ceremony is the Celebrate ’88 Legacy Skate, an evening retro ‘80s public skate featuring Calgary 2012 artist-in-residence Ramin Eshraghi-Yazdi and DJ Rob Faust. The free public skate will also feature athlete autograph sessions, pin-trading, and more.

Visit the Olympic Oval for more information and to register.
