UCalgary Emeriti Association hosts post-pandemic memorial presentation
As borders closed, workplaces shuttered and social restrictions took hold, the pandemic denied us many of the precious things we took for granted. For members of the University of Calgary Emeriti Association, one of those things was the opportunity to gather and pay respects to friends and colleagues who passed away.
On Wednesday, Oct. 12, at the conclusion of its annual general meeting, the association will hold a special In Memoriam presentation to honour members who died between March 2020 and September 2022.
Dr. John Latter, president of the Emeriti Association executive committee, will read a list of those who died of various causes during COVID. The presentation, open to all, is an opportunity to reflect on the remarkable lives and contributions of deceased faculty members and other colleagues. On the same day, the campus flag on Swann Mall will be lowered in remembrance.

Annual general meeting (hybrid)
The annual meeting of the Emeriti Association will take place between 2 and 4 p.m. on Oct. 12 in the Blue Room of the Dining Centre on main campus. The event can be attended in person or online. Pre-registration is not required. Those not on the association’s newsletter mailing list can email emeritus@ucalgary.ca to request the Zoom meeting ID and passcode.
The event will begin with a presentation by Dr. Penny Werthner, interim provost and vice-president (academic), who will discuss and answer questions about the Provost Office portfolio and goals for the next year. After Werthner’s presentation, Latter will read the list of deceased, followed by personal tributes.
