Thousands of students get to know us and make new friends at Orientation events

Thousands of new students — 4,163, to be exact — started their UCalgary journey on Aug. 29, 2024 by taking part in the noisy, joy-filled new student pep rally.

Here are some highlights of the rally and other New Student Orientation Events Aug. 29-30:

This is the first year Orientation T-shirts included an ii'taa'poh'to'p message, designed in collaboration with the Office of Indigenous Engagement.
2,115 students participated in Speed Friend Making, setting an attendance record for the event.
This year also marked the re-introduction of the consent play U Need FRIES With That: Sex, Consent, and Relationships on Campus.
328 student leaders provided leadership across two days of events, including 42 senior orientation leaders, 245 orientation leaders and 41 welcome ambassadors.
