Taylor Institute changes hours and booking process effective Jan. 10
A number of changes are happening in the Taylor Institute learning spaces. These changes are a result of feedback from students, faculty and staff. They will make the Taylor Institute more accessible and further enhance teaching and learning experiences at the University of Calgary.
- Effective Jan. 10, 2019, the hours of operation will be extended until 9 p.m., Monday to Friday, and academic courses and one-time activities related to teaching and learning such as workshops and exams can now be scheduled in the evenings through the Registrar’s Office. The Taylor Institute is looking into using the space for academic courses and events on Saturdays and Sundays, starting in the fall of 2019.
Regular hours of work for TI Staff will remain 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday.
- The Taylor Institute has partnered with the Registrar’s Office to schedule academic courses and exams in the Taylor Institute for Fall 2019/ Winter 2020 and beyond. This will be a permanent change to optimize space utilization and ensure alignment with standardized course booking processes across the UCalgary campus. The Taylor Institute will no longer be booking spaces for academic courses or one-time events following the spring/summer of 2019. The Registrar’s Office deadline for space requests and bookings for Fall 2019/Winter 2020 is Jan. 24, 2019.
If you would like to teach in the Taylor Institute for Fall 2019/Winter 2020, please ensure you request through your faculty/department scheduler to specify this in the Class Comments section of PeopleSoft. You will need to include the rationale (a few sentences) as to why you specifically require this space. Also include a statement that if you are not able to acquire space in the TI, if you would like to be considered for other active learning spaces across campus.
Conference and Events Management (CEM) will continue to book space for all non-academic events and for any academic events that require catering.
Another important change is for Comm Media to be the first point of contact for any technical questions or issues in the Taylor Institute Learning Spaces (phone contact: 403-220-5001). Inquiries should no longer go directly to the Taylor Institute environment operations specialist.
If you have additional questions about spaces, please email the Taylor Institute.
