Schulich School of Engineering welcomes largest class of first-year students
It started with a scarf.
The Schulich School of Engineering welcomed its largest-ever class of first-year students on Sept. 2 for Orientation Day 2022.
More than 1,100 students picked up their red, yellow, black and white scarves – keepsakes to remember their upcoming time at the University of Calgary.
For the first time since 2019, the new class was welcomed to a fully in-person event. They were welcomed at the MacEwan Hall ballroom by several guest speakers including Schulich Dean Bill Rosehart, PhD, and keynote speaker Audrey Mascarenhas, P.Eng., FCAE.
From there, the students gathered in ICT courtyard for another annual tradition - organizing themselves in a Greek symbol, with this year's being Rho, the 17th letter of the Greek alphabet.
They then went on a scavenger hunt around the faculty, learned about the various groups and clubs that Schulich has to offer, and indulged in an ice cream treat to end the proceedings outside on the hot summer afternoon.
