PSA: UCalgary Summer Wellness Series 2022

Calgary, AB – Next week the Taylor Institute for Teaching and Learning and the Campus Mental Health Strategy will present the first of two webinar sessions in their annual Summer Wellness Series.

In the first session, Reflecting on Well-Being and Assessment Practices Using an Ethics-of-Care Lens, Roxanne Ross, director of UCalgary’s Student Success Centre explores the potential relationship between well-being and assessment/test practices, reflecting on the primary role assessing student academic performance plays within the lives of students and course instructors.

This session draws on a qualitative study involving post-secondary students’ perceptions of academic stances and teaching practices that support their well-being. Themes include the impacts of assessment decisions on course instructors’ well-being, how testing practices impact student well-being, and an ethics-of-care framework on how we engage in assessment processes and practices.

Note: Dr. Andrew Szeto, PhD, Campus Mental Health Strategy director and associate professor in the Department of Psychology, is available for interviews today and Monday, July 19. Dr. Szeto can discuss the intersection of mental health and wellbeing and teaching and learning.
