New way to pay for parking on campus now available in Lot 10

This September, the launch of the WayToPark app will allow students, faculty, staff and any visitors to the University of Calgary campus to pay for parking in Lot 10 from the convenience of their phone.

“We are very excited. This is something we have been wanting to bring to campus for a long while now,” says Susan Austen, associate director, parking and transportation. “We want to give people who are parking another payment option, one that is easy, quick and convenient.”

Parking and Transportation will pilot the app in Lot 10 with the intention of adding the WayToPark app to all the flat rate and hourly rate lots across campus in the near future.

WayToPark’s functionality will enable users to pay for parking on their smartphone immediately on arrival without having to visit the parking station. Users can also select the amount of time they feel they need, get a reminder before their parking expires, and if they still need more time they have the ability to top-up from wherever they are on campus.

“Lot 10 is a $7 flat rate lot and no longer has a re-entry fee,” says Austen. “You won’t need to worry about topping up unless you plan on staying past 11:59 p.m. on the day you parked. That being said, once you have the app and it becomes available in all our lots, you will never have to pay for more parking than you need, or leave what you’re doing to add extra time. It’s a huge benefit: saving money, time and effectively eliminates parking violations.”

The WayToPark app is simple to use:

1. Download the app for free from the App Store, or Google Play.
2. Create your account.
3. Enter your licence plate and your credit card (ability to add multiple plates and credit cards), begin to use the app.
4. A 25-cent surcharge per transaction will be charged.

Download WayToPay today. Anyone who downloads and uses the app in the month of September will receive $1 off of their parking (promo code “park”).
