New secure bike parking at Foothills Campus
Good news for those who choose two wheels for their daily commute: a new all-season, secure bike parking structure is now open at Foothills Campus.
Located in the Health Sciences Centre (HSC)/Health Research Innovation Centre (HRIC) courtyard, the structure can accommodate just over 250 bikes and is accessed by a secure card system.
All University of Calgary faculty, staff and students interested in using the facility can purchase a bike parking permit for $30/year. The permit is also valid at the Art Parkade’s secure bike parking facility on Main Campus. Both facilities are managed and operated by the University of Calgary Parking and Transportation Services.
Permits will be available for in-person purchase (debit/credit/cash) on site at the HRIC Atrium on Wednesday, May 20 and Wednesday, June 3 between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Permits can also be purchased online at ucalgary.ca/parking/parkingpermits and in person from Parking and Transportation Services. Online orders can be picked up or mailed as requested.
The secure bike parking project is supported by the Foothills Campus Sustainability Committee and is part of the university’s long-term strategic plan to support more sustainable transportation means across campus. A commitment to this plan has also seen the recent addition of parking stalls for car2go, the citywide car share program, at Foothills.
“This is a very exciting initiative, which will hopefully increase the appeal of bike commuting for members of our campus community,” says Lindsay McLaren, PhD, associate professor in the Department of Community Health Sciences and chair of the Foothills Campus Sustainability Committee.
