In Memoriam: Owen Sutherland Zucchelli, Faculty of Science
It is with great sadness that we mourn the loss of Owen Sutherland Zucchelli, who passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 2, 2021 at the age of 19. Owen was in the second year of his Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics at the University of Calgary, working toward his goal of becoming a high school math teacher. He will be greatly missed by the UCalgary community.
Owen is survived by his parents, David and Sue Zucchelli, and his siblings, Maya, Evan, Lilly, and Tulia Zucchelli. He is also survived by his grandparents, Abe and Denise Pauls and Steve and Sandra McGreer. He is loved by countless cousins, aunts, uncles and friends who all are heartbroken with his passing.
Owen was the middle child and adored by his siblings. His funny nature was beautifully balanced by his quiet presence. He had challenges in junior high school but persevered to turn that around, even voluntarily taking summer school. He often set very high goals for himself whether it was with school, reading, or health and fitness.
Owen was a born minimalist. He only wanted things that were necessary and didn’t need any of the extras. He loved to read and watch movies, the more obscure the movie, the better. He had a passion to endlessly analyze movies. Owen also loved being out in nature and often took walks in Fish Creek Park.
Owen was quiet by nature but never afraid to speak his mind. He was known to speak up and assert his opinions when he felt it was important or if he had a different point of view. He often surprised his family and friends with how witty he could be.
A celebration of Owen’s life will be held later this year when those who knew and loved him can gather safely. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Owen’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com.
In living memory of Owen, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary.
