In Memoriam: Dr. Peter Krueger, Faculty of Science

The Faculty of Science is mourning the loss of Dr. Peter Krueger, PhD, professor emeritus. He passed away April 23, 2020, at the age of 85, and will be greatly missed.

In his 42 years connected to the University of Calgary, Dr. Krueger held a number of influential positions, including the founding head of the Department of Chemistry, vice-dean (budget and physical planning) of the Faculty of Arts and Science, and vice-president (academic) and provost. In 2001, he was honoured with the Order of the University of Calgary for his many contributions to the university community.

As a scholar and researcher, Dr. Krueger was the first Canadian to receive the Coblentz Award in Spectroscopy in 1967, and the inaugural Herzberg Award in Spectroscopy from the Canadian Society for Analytical Sciences and Spectroscopy. He was also elected a Fellow of the Chemical Institute of Canada and of the Royal Society for Chemistry in the U.K.

Dr. Krueger remained active in the university community after retiring, serving on the Private Colleges Accreditation Board for the Government of Alberta and as Academic-in-Residence in the International Centre.
