Marie Delorme and Loren Falkenberg honoured during convocation ceremonies
At convocation, the University of Calgary recognizes a number of exemplary individuals with honorary degrees and Orders of the University of Calgary (OTUC). The honorary degree, Doctor of Laws, is the University of Calgary’s highest academic honour, bestowed on individuals whose notable achievements and community service merit recognition. These distinguished individuals will address our graduating class during the June convocation ceremonies, sharing words of wisdom gained through years as leaders in their field.
The OTUC is a highly prestigious recognition honouring University of Calgary community members who have contributed in an impactful manner to the university over a period of time.
Dr. Marie Delorme, PhD, will have an honorary degree conferred upon her and Dr. Loren Falkenberg, PhD, will receive the OTUC at the June 8 convocation ceremony for the Faculty of Graduate Studies and the Haskayne School of Business.
CEO, entrepreneur, and community leader
UCalgary alumna Marie Delorme, PhD'12, is CEO of The Imagination Group of Companies. She is involved regionally and nationally in a variety of boards, organizations and committees.
After an 18-year career in the telecommunications industry, Delorme left the industry in 1999 to pursue entrepreneurialism and founded the Imagination Group.
She chairs the Chiniki Trico Board, is past chair of the RCMP Foundation Board, and serves on the River Cree Enterprises Board, the National Indigenous Economic Development Board, and The Canadian Centre to End Human Trafficking Board. She is also an advisor to two universities, most recently serving as a professional facilitator for the University of Calgary’s Indigenous Strategy as it moved from consultation to development to inception.
UCalgary professor and leader in corporate social responsibility
UCalgary alumna Loren Falkenberg, BEd’74, joined the university in 1986, and has a record of significant and distinguished service. In addition to being associate dean of research at the Haskayne School of Business, she chaired the university’s strategic planning process in 2011 and 2016, engaging the entire campus in the development of the Eyes High strategy.
She has demonstrated enthusiasm for innovative programming; two examples are the development of the Doctor of Business Administration and Master of Management degrees in the Haskayne School of Business.
An expert in corporate social responsibility, Falkenberg’s research interests focus on examining ethical and social responsibility issues in companies, and exploring the relationships between companies and not-for-profit organizations. Her current research explored how companies can optimize value creation for both the company and the community.
Nominations for honorary degree and Order of the University of Calgary recipients are open year round. Nomination forms and other important information are available on the Senate website.
