Last week, the Dean's Office of the Haskayne School of Business and the Haskayne Students' Association (HSA) celebrated student excellence at the 2014 Dean’s List Reception. Nearly 250 Haskayne students were invited to celebrate their academic accomplishments with family, peers and faculty.

In total, 138 students were named on the Dean’s List for the winter semester in 2014 and 156 for fall. Within the group, there were 49 students who achieved Dean’s List honours for both semesters, two Dinos athletes, nine international students and 36 students pursuing a double-major undergraduate degrees.

Haskayne School of Business representative to the Students’ Union, Jasmine Chitroda, thinks that it is important for Haskayne to recognize these achievements. "The idea for the Dean's List Reception was brought forward last year after seeing what other faculties, including engineering and science, were doing to celebrate academic achievement.

“Hosting the Dean’s List Reception would be a great way to celebrate the accomplishments of students in Haskayne while also giving them something to look forward to for their hard work," continued Chitroda.

President and VP, Academic of HSA, Seema Pandher, believes that these types of events bring about a sense of community within Haskayne. “Celebrating student academic achievement through the Dean’s List Reception provides the opportunity for students to meet and interact with each other and hopefully further establishes a sense of pride that is associated with being a Haskayne student.”

The Dean’s List Reception is just one of the new initiatives that the HSA hopes to implement over the next year. “I am excited to see the new ideas and improvements the newly elected executive committee will bring to HSA as they continue many of the initiatives that the current committee began.”
