Free yoga for young Canadians affected by cancer
Calgary, AB – Know of a young adult between the ages of 18 and 39 who has or is recovering from cancer? Encourage them to join free online yoga classes along with their partner, a friend or family member. After a successful trial program in the spring of 2020, the program was offered to 45 participants in the fall and the classes filled up quickly.
Open to participants across Canada, the classes include gentle hatha yoga (accessible for all levels), breathwork and techniques to promote confidence so participants can continue to practice once the program wraps up. The class instructors have specialized training in yoga, exercise and cancer.
Why yoga? Early evidence suggests if young adults who are affected by cancer practice yoga, they have better flexibility, improved range of motion, better mood, less anxiety and depression, and better overall quality of life.
