What’s the deadline to apply for admission?

The deadline to submit your initial application or make changes to your application for fall 2023 is March 1, 2023. We encourage all students to submit their applications as early as possible as the deadline to apply for the High School Entrance Awards is also March 1, 2023. You must apply for admission to be able to apply for awards and it can take up to 24 hours for your award application to be available on your my.ucalgary.ca after submitting your initial application.

What’s the admitting average for each program?

Admission averages are finalized once the pool of applicants is known after the March 1 application deadline and do change throughout the admission cycle. For students who haven’t received an offer, we recommend that they consider the estimated competitive admission averages highlighted on our Admission Requirements website, as these are the competitive ranges for our programs.

I received my offer of admission, what’s next?

Congratulations! UCalgary has an Admission Next Steps page to support you.

First, make sure you hold your spot by accepting your offer and paying your deposit.  UCalgary requires that all students accept their offer and pay a $500 non-refundable admission deposit; the admission deposit will be used towards your first-year tuition. Offer of admission details and the deposit deadline are available in your Student Centre (my.ucalgary.ca).

Applicants with offers of admission have also been sent an invitation for You at UCalgary on April 1, 2023, an exclusive event for newly admitted students. Save the date for this exciting event for the incoming undergraduate class of 2027. You'll have the opportunity to discover your future campus, connect with your faculty, learn about resources on campus, and start your journey as a first-year Dino and part of our UCalgary community.

How do I pay my admission deposit?

The University of Calgary offers multiple payment options for students. Which method is right for you depends on if you hold a Canadian bank account, if you’re paying from outside Canada, or if you wish to pay by credit card.

The preferred method of payment for all students is a bank-to-bank transfer through Canadian online banking. International students are advised to get a Canadian bank account after landing in Canada. Instructions for these payment methods can be found on the How to Pay Your Fees page.

Students are advised to take the listed processing time into account when making payments. Students should ensure their payments are received by the relevant term fee deadline. International payments through CIBC Student Pay or Convera Global Pay can be subject to delays outside the university’s control.

What do students need to do to keep their offer of admission?

Applicants who have received an offer of admission with high school courses in program must:

  • Maintain their average—we encourage students to maintain the average that they were admitted with. All students will find a link in their Student Centre (my.ucalgary.ca) in May highlighting the final admitting average they need to maintain.
  • Complete all required grade 12 courses for their program by June 30, 2023
  • Submit any outstanding documents as outlined in their to-do list
  • Graduate from high school

These details are available for students in their Student Centre (my.ucalgary.ca) under the “Status” link.

I received an offer, what happens to my other program choice?

If a student receives an offer of admission to their first-choice program, this is the only offer of admission they’ll receive. We recommend students rank their application choices with their most desired program as their first choice.

If a student receives an offer of admission to their second-choice program, they’ll still be considered for their first-choice program, provided there are still spaces available in the program at the time they meet the requirements. In this scenario, students will be automatically re-reviewed in the summer once their final grades are received.

Please note that the admission office aims to complete the majority of high school offers by May 2023 and June 2023 for transfer applicants. Learn more about considering your first- and second-choice programs.

I haven’t received an offer from either of my program choices after the second review. What are my options?

Some applicants who did not qualify for both of their preferred majors but still qualify for other majors will receive an e-mail from the Admission office with further information regarding changing their second choice application ahead of the March 1, 2023 deadline. If you do not qualify for admission, we highly recommend connecting with your region-specific recruiter, who can walk through the next step options related to a future application.

I want to take some courses this summer to improve my admission average. Can these courses be considered?

The deadline to complete all your high school courses is June 30, 2023. Courses taken over the summer will not be completed in time to support admission for fall 2023. Additionally, most decisions for programs will have been made before this deadline.

If you don't qualify for admission and wish to apply for a future intake, we recommend booking a one-on-one appointment with our Recruitment Team.
