Faculty and staff voting time allotment for Alberta provincial general election

A message from Marcia Buchholz, associate vice-president (human resources)

The Alberta Provincial General Election will take place on Tuesday, April 16, 2019. Polling stations will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. This is a reminder that under the Election Act, all faculty and staff who are eligible to vote are entitled to three consecutive hours when polling stations are open to cast their vote on election day.

Polling stations are typically open for extended hours on election day so most faculty and staff will have sufficient time to vote outside of their regular working hours. For those whose work schedule does not allow for three consecutive hours of availability in which to cast a vote, the university will need to accommodate additional time off without loss of pay. Please note that faculty and staff are only entitled to an amount of additional time off with pay as necessary to provide for three consecutive hours to cast a vote, and the timing of their absence is at the discretion of management.

Eligible voters can also vote in the following advance polls located on UCalgary campuses:

MacEwan Hall

  • Thursday, April 11: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

McMahon Stadium (SW corner), returning office, 1817 Crowchild Trail NW
