Dr. Derek McKay receives honorary doctorate from Linkoping University, Sweden
This weekend (May 20th), six international researchers would become honorary doctorates at Linköping University. But the corona pandemic came in between and the Academic celebration has moved to the fall. The six selected researchers work closely with LiU researchers in language and literacy, climate policy, AI, organic electronics, medical imaging and inflammatory diseases.
The honorary doctor of medicine has been appointed to Derek McKay, a professor at the University of Calgary. McKay is a well-established researcher in physiology and pathophysiology of the gastrointestinal tract, especially in relation to inflammatory diseases. McKay's research is primarily about how infections in the gut can affect the immune system of the intestinal mucosa in inflammatory disease. The scientific collaboration between McKay and research groups at Linköping University was established in the early 2000s and through his methodological and immunophysiological knowledge, McKay has deepened gastrointestinal research in Linköping.
