Announcing new Acting Facility Medical Director, Foothills Medical Centre, Dr. Luanne Metz

Dr. Sid Viner, MD, Medical Director, Calgary Zone Alberta Health Services is very pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Luanne Metz, MD, as Acting Facility Medical Director, Foothills Medical Centre effective March 26, 2020. Dr. Metz is assuming this role as Dr. Peter Jamieson has taken on responsibilities related to the Emergency Coordination Committee and COVID-19.

Dr. Metz is a neurologist, researcher, and leader. She completed her MD at the University of Calgary in 1983 and her residency in Toronto and Calgary in 1988. She led the development of care, education, and research at the Calgary MS Clinic from 1993-2014 and was section chief of Neurology from 2014 to 2019. She now leads the MS research and fellowship programs. Dr. Metz has received many honours for her work including the Alberta Medical Association Medal for Distinguished Service in 2015.

In addition to maintaining an active clinical practice, Dr. Metz has been involved in research and has led the Calgary site in over 50 industry-sponsored clinical trials as well as several investigator-initiated clinical trials. She has published over 200 peer-reviewed manuscripts and has served on several international advisory boards and data and safety monitoring boards.
