Alice de Koning has been appointed academic director of the Hunter Hub for Entrepreneurial Thinking.

Alice de Koning

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Alice de Koning, PhD, as the academic director of the Hunter Hub for Entrepreneurial Thinking, effective Jan. 1, 2019.

This position is a 75 per cent secondment from de Koning’s current role as senior instructor in the Haskayne School of Business. To take on this new appointment, she will be stepping down as academic director of the Hunter Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation within Haskayne, and as the area chair, Entrepreneurship and Innovation in the Haskayne School of Business.

As the Hunter Hub’s academic director, de Koning will seek to enhance the academic direction of the university’s commitment to entrepreneurial thinking by overseeing academic curriculum development and enriching the breadth and depth of entrepreneurial programming at the University of Calgary. This role will also involve interdisciplinary work with the faculties across the university to collaborate on new initiatives, programs, and projects.

She will bring her enthusiasm for entrepreneurship and innovation to the role and will encourage students, faculty and staff to see problems in new ways to create practical and effective solutions.

In her role as area chair, Entrepreneurship and Innovation for Haskayne, de Koning developed strategy for the area, as well as designed curriculum. As a faculty member, de Koning has taught numerous courses in entrepreneurship and opportunity development at the University of Calgary and previously at Salem State University, Georgia State University and the Stockholm School of Economics.

She holds a PhD in Management (Strategy and Entrepreneurship) from INSEAD and a Master of Business Administration, with distinction, from the Ivey School of Business, Western University, as well as a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in History, Christianity and Culture from the University of Toronto. The breadth in her academic background perfectly situates her to be the first academic lead for the Hunter Hub.

I would also like to thank those that assisted with the search and selection process, which included: Dr. Ed McCauley, PhD, Dr. Lesley Rigg, PhD, Joelle Foster, and Courtney McVie. Their time and expertise in providing a recommendation was invaluable.

Please join me in congratulating Alice on her appointment.

Dr. Dru Marshall
Provost and Vice-President (Academic)
