University of Calgary Solar Car Team celebrates 10 years

Anniversary event highlights the past, present and future of interdisciplinary project

May 15, 2014

Tomorrow, the University of Calgary Solar Car Team celebrates 10 years of success and growth designing, building and racing solar cars. The first solar car team was established in the fall of 2004 after the North American Solar Challenge (NASC) announced it would end its 4,000 km race in Calgary in July of 2005. Over the past decade, undergraduate students from the University of Calgary participating in this interdisciplinary project have successfully designed and built four generations of solar cars and competed in seven international races.

On Friday, current and past members of the Solar Car Team, faculty and community members will gather to celebrate 10 years of student-led ingenuity, problem-solving and design. All of the solar cars, including the latest generation the Schulich Delta, will also be on-site for viewing. Following a breakfast celebration, the media is invited to speak to team members who will share highlights from the past and unveil plans for their next generation vehicle.
