SEEING Soldiering: In theatre with those who serve

May 15, 2013

Photography exhibit opening May 16 explores the life of a soldier through an artistic lens

SEEING Soldiering, a new exhibit by Canadian photographer Althea Thauberger opening May 16, draws back the curtain on military life, revealing a raw human element to an often-difficult lifestyle.

Thauberger is known for involving her subjects in the creation of their portraits, ensuring they are seen on their own terms. In SEEING Soldiering, Thauberger’s subjects were able to offer their own perspectives on what it means to be in the military. Their varied response draws attention to individuality within the armed forces and shows the personal subjectivity of shared experience. The exhibition, on display in The Founders’ Gallery located in The Military Museums, presents a universal struggle between individual and group identity.
