Experience the beauty of summer in Norway! Cold-plunge in the ocean, explore surrounding nature sites, and embrace an intentional way-of-life.
Take part in the University of Oslo's 4-week International Summer School. The University of Oslo (UiO) is both the oldest and largest university in Norway, and is recognized as the country's top institution for higher education (QS 2019).
Note: This summer school will be offered in Summer 2026, and is available every-other year (anticipated to return in Summer 2028).

Program details
A variety of Bachelor's and Master's level courses are available on this summer program.
Example course topics include art, history, literature, gender equality, community health, peace research, and elementary or intermediate Norwegian.

Note: 6 ECTS = 3 UCalgary units (1 standard semester course).
2026 Program:
- 4-week courses start June 29
- 6-week courses start June 22

Costs
As UCalgary has an exchange agreement with the University of Oslo, students will pay their tuition fees to UCalgary.
Students will pay tuition for 1 course to UCalgary at their normal tuition rate.
Nominated exchange students pay any other non-tuition costs directly to UIO (accommodation and participation fee).

Funding
Did you know that you can take your UCalgary funding with you on exchange? Since you remain a degree-seeking student at UCalgary while studying abroad, you remain eligible for any awards and scholarships you are otherwise eligible to receive from the university, as well as student loans.
Our office administers several awards, including the Global Access Fund and the Global Learning Award. Students may only receive these awards once. Please see the funding page, linked below, for more information.
During the summer school weeks, the University of Oslo offers safe, affordable, and enjoyable housing with other ISS students at Rønningen dormitory in Oslo. To learn more, view the program website.
This exchange is open to regular, full-time students in any faculty at the University of Calgary, who have completed at least one full year (10 courses) at the post-secondary level, with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.
Students apply to UCalgary first, then we nominate accepted students who have met the minimum requirements to our partners. Once you have been nominated to UIO, you will then apply directly to their exchange program.

International travel presents challenges that may not be found when attending classes on campus.
