Luz Palacios-Derflingher

Dr. Luz Palacios-Derflingher is a Senior Research Associate, Biostatistician in the Sport Injury Prevention Research Centre, and an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Community Health Sciences at the University of Calgary. She has experience in research and consulting within health sciences and services settings, being involved in projects in the Faculties of Nursing and Medicine previous to joining SIPRC.

She has been involved in the preparation and submission of grants with several different agencies at different levels; of notice, submissions to Alberta Innovates-Health Solutions and Alberta Heritage Foundation for Medical Research were successful. She has directed and performed analyses of diverse statistical methodologies, as well as of qualitative nature. Her main interests lie in clustered data models.

Her experience in teaching statistical concepts started as a teacher assistant in the Mathematics and Statistics department, and has continued in the Faculties of Medicine, Nursing and Kinesiology and in Continuing Medical Education at the University of Calgary (courses and workshops). She emphasizes the importance of teaching/ communicating statistical concepts to statisticians and non-statisticians alike at an understandable level.
