Paula Berton is a seasoned researcher and innovator, currently serving as a Research Associate in the Chemical and Petroleum Engineering Department at the University of Calgary. Her expertise lies in utilizing Ionic Liquids for sustainable separation and purification processes, with a particular focus on applications in the biomass and energy sectors.
Beyond her research pursuits, Paula is a co-founder of the Academic Entrepreneurs in Residence program, where she has played a vital role in guiding over 35 ventures from research innovations to successful commercialization. Simultaneously, she holds the position of Chief Scientific Officer at CalAgua Innovations Corp., leading the effort to bring UCalgary's groundbreaking innovations to commercialization. With a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the Universidad Nacional de San Luis, Argentina, Paula brings over a decade of global expertise to her role. Her commitment extends to mentoring students and designing courses on research and innovation, fostering the next generation of scientific leaders.
Paula's academic contributions have resulted in four provisional patents, more than 50 publications, and over 1,300 citations, solidifying her position as a key figure in research, innovation, and mentorship at the intersection of academia and industry.
