These overviews provide basic entitlements for employees new to the organization. Entitlements for internal employees transferring to a new role may vary slightly depending on their current job and entitlements.

Employee Type ID: Reg FT

Definition: Employees funded from base operating dollars (Operating Employees) who work year-round.

Position Management: 

  • Assigned a one-to-one position number in the HR System
  • Active positions are used for annual budgeting and planning purposes
  • Active positions count against a department budget’s spend until that position is inactivated in the HR System

Recruitment Requirements:

  • Job Profile required
  • Funding approval required
  • Job Opening requested and approved via the Job Opening Request form (located in the myUCalgary Portal under My work)
  • Posting required - minimum of seven days
  • Offer letter produced
  • Probation completed after six months

Work Schedule: Flexible (based on business priorities) around a 35 hour work week.

Time Sheet:

  • Salaried Employees - code Exception time
  • MaPS employees not eligible for positive time exceptions (CTO, Overtime etc.)
  • MaPS Flexible Work Arrangement Program
  • Eligible to participate after completion of probation period

Benefits Eligibility: Full benefits plan

Pension Eligibility: Mandatory

Special Leave Entitlements: Full entitlement

Sick Leave: Full entitlement

  • 70% sick leave first three months
  • 100% sick leave after three months

Vacation: Full entitlement

Employee Type ID: Limited Term FT

Definition: Employees working in a non-recurring appointment created through the use of one-time special operating funds whose terms of hire establish an anticipated date for termination. Limited Term employees are hired using one of the following employee classification (Empl Class):

  • Support Staff Limited Term when the position supports base operations and is charged directly to base operating funds.*
    or
  • Support Staff Limited Term (Project) when the position is directly charged to a non-research project.

*Applies even if the salary is recovered from non-research project funds

Appointments cannot be less than six (6) months or more than two (2) years.

Position Management: Support Staff Limited Term jobs (supporting base operations) are assigned a one-to-one position number in the HR System when funded from base operating. Active positions are used for annual budgeting and planning purposes. Active positions count against a department budget’s spend until that position is inactivated in the HR System.

Benefits Eligibility:  

  • Full Benefits Plan for appointments greater than six months
  • LTD has a maximum benefit payment of two years or age 65, whichever is earlier

Pension Eligibility:

  • Appointments less than one year - Not Eligible
  • Appointments of one year or more (or extended beyond one year or more) - Mandatory

Employee Type Description: Temporary Relief Full Time (MaPS)

Recruitment Requirements:

  • Offer letter produced
  • Extensions do not require posting
  • No service and no completion of probation
  • Must be greater than 20 working days
  • Must be replacing a regular employee expected to return
