You made it happen
During the University of Calgary’s 60th anniversary year, you’ve given us another milestone to celebrate: one of our best Giving Day campaigns yet.
More than 2,850 alumni, students, faculty, staff, emeriti and emeritae, retirees and friends came together April 9-23 for UCalgary Giving Day, raising a record-breaking $2.7 million to support world-class research, education, innovation and more — all of which strengthen our university and the community.

Power in numbers
Since its launch in 2017, Giving Day has raised more than $18 million and brought together thousands of supporters each year, all rallying behind the causes that matter most — and behind the university that is advancing them.
Whether supporting teaching and learning, research, scholarships and bursaries, student experience, community initiatives or any one of our impactful funds, each and every gift makes a difference — and together, they do even more, creating momentum that fuels lasting change on our campus, in the community and around the world.
It pays to give together
Alumni, faculty and staff — including emeriti, emeritae and retirees — got together to give their favourite causes a boost, with funds that reached 20 alumni or 20 faculty/staff donors receiving an extra $2,500.
40 funds unlocked bonus dollars this Giving Day, with several achieving multiple bonuses, adding up to a grand total of $135,000 unlocked.
Alumni for students
For every alum who gave this Giving Day — no matter the amount or fund — the UCalgary Alumni Association Board contributed $50 to the Student Food Security Fund, supporting initiatives that improve access to affordable, nutritious food.
The challenge earned the fund an extra $60,000 on top of the more than $13,000 in direct donations.
USpark change
We launched USpark this Giving Day to provide recent graduates a new way to join in — by designating $25 towards one of six student funding areas, allowing them to support students in a way that's personally meaningful, without the financial commitment.
More than 800 votes were cast and scholarships and bursaries came out on top, with young alumni appreciating the value they bring to students by easing the financial burden of post-secondary education, and to the university by helping attract bright minds to our campus and community.
Subscribe to Spark
Just as a single spark can ignite a roaring flame, your generosity serves as the catalyst for monumental change here at UCalgary. Each quarter, we’ll bring you stories of the people you empower and impact you make possible — research breakthroughs, innovative technologies, new industries and more.
Thank you for your submission.
