Propel Business Project
Funds originally earmarked for RBC Entrepreneurial Adventure Education Experience and Master of Management (MMgmt) were redirected to support the 2022-23 Propel Business Project at the Haskayne School of Business.
Propel gives students the opportunity to participate in a paid externship with non-profit and startup organizations. This year’s Propel was the third and largest iteration of the annual program. We prioritized equity, diversity and inclusion, in addition to innovation and sustainability, when selecting organizations to place students. In a similar vein, the project was tailored to our daytime Master of Business Administration (MBA) students who are primarily international students. Out of the 78 projects, 29 per cent were completed by international students in the MBA and MMgmt programs. This provided the students with Canadian work experience and references and assisted them in acclimatizing to the Canadian workforce. It is worth noting that six Propel students were employed by their paired organization in a part-time, internship or full-time capacity following the program.
In July 2023, we introduced the Propel Awards to celebrate the success of the program and recognize the contributions of the students and community partners who provided the incredible work-integrated learning experiences.
