Consultation Feedback Summary
Feedback and Responses
As part of the consultation process, several engagement activities were held with neighbours and key stakeholders of the Spy Hill campus. These included six stakeholder group working sessions, four steering committee meetings and two public open houses in February and April 2023, as well as an online survey to gather feedback on the draft Long Range Development Plan (LRDP).
This summary highlights the key themes that emerged from the input received.
The Spy Hill campus site was described as a quiet and peaceful place to work and study. Preserving this atmosphere emerged as a clear priority.
The Spy Hill campus is currently perceived as disconnected from the main campus. Suggestions included establishing a shuttle or transit link to strengthen connection with the main campus.
Extending public transit services to the Spy Hill campus was identified as essential for improving accessibility and supporting sustainable transportation.
The importance of an inclusive and transparent consultation process was emphasized, with a desire for continued involvement of a broad range of voices in future planning.
Concerns were raised about the site's proximity to the Calgary Remand Centre. Feedback pointed to the need for more buffer zones.
Support was expressed for engaging architects who understand the site’s microclimate and can design buildings that are sensitive to the local environment and landscape. Maintaining the open nature of the site was seen as important. There was a clear interest in limiting development density and avoiding excessive paving or parking infrastructure. Issues such as dust and erosion from neighbouring industrial uses highlighted the need for environmental protection measures in future planning.
A network of walking paths that connect to the local community was identified as a valuable feature. This would support both public access and integration with surrounding areas.
