BACKGROUND
	
	
	The Canadian Universities Network on Rural Development (CUNORD) was established
	in 1990. It is a collaborative, non-profit undertaking designed to enhance
	the research, outreach, instructional and other capabilities of its member
	university-based institutions in the broad field of rural development in
	Canada. Its purpose is to advance the welfare of rural communities and the
	integrity of rural environments.
	 
	    
	
	  OBJECTIVES
	
	
	 
	  - 
	    To increase the organizational capacity of its members through the sharing
	    of data, reports, research designs, professional training initiatives, community
	    and other outreach experiences, project proposals and other information.
	    
	    - 
	    To maximize the effectiveness of collective resources and reinforce the strengths
	    and activities of individual rural development institutions.
	    
	    - 
	    To advise, encourage and assist in the development of appropriate policies,
	    programmes and projects for rural initiatives through liaison and slected
	    collaboration with other rural development interests across Canada.
	    
	    - 
	    To contribute to the availability of critical information for all concerned.
	
  
	
	    
	
	  ORGANIZATION
	
	
	The Network's activities are co-ordinated by a Management Committee. The
	Network's financial resources come from the member institutions and a supporting
	grant from thr J.W. McConnell Family Foundation.
