KICKOFF'09
Alumni are invited to celebrate the start of the 2009-2010 school year! Join us on Saturday, Sept. 12 for a tailgate party with food from Spolumbo's (FREE for the first 1,500 people), fun activities and a "Dunk the Golden Bear" tank. As if the prospect of sausages, football and fresh autumn air isn't enough, you can also cheer on students vying for a semester of free tuition in the Dinos Most Devoted Fan competition, sponsored by your Alumni Association. Alumni game tickets are $5 each purchased in advance or $8 at the gate.

Congratulations to George Gosbee, BComm'93, chairman, president and CEO of Tristone Capital, named Haskayne's 2009 Management Alumni Excellence (MAX) Award recipient. The MAX Award recognizes the outstanding success of Haskayne alumni, celebrating personal achievement and extraordinary service to the School and the community. Alumnus fuels inquiry-based learning
Anyone interested in innovative education reform would do well to take a trip to Botha School and meet Principal Peter Weeks, BA'94, BEd'94. His tiny elementary school just east of Stettler, AB has embraced inquiry-based learning, which requires the student to actively question throughout the course of his/her studies, to conduct research and to interpret a wide range of materials. Archivist answers call to salvage Cologne's past
U of C alumna and archivist Regina Landwehr, BSc'93, responded to a plea made by the International Council on Archives to help salvage buried material worth $600 million after the collapse of a six-story archive building in Cologne, Germany. Landwehr was already scheduled to fly to Germany for a research project shortly after the collapse and was able to add on another week to her trip to help sort through the historic carnage. Schulich grad a face of philanthropy
Gary McKenzie, BSc '75, chose to go to the U of C for engineering because of the program's diversity. Now at TransCanada, he has enjoyed a successful career in the oil and gas sector and has remained an active alumnus, including serving two years as chair of the Engineering Alumni Association. Kin/Phys Ed alumni invited to perform
Created in 1969 in the Faculty of Kinesiology by faculty and students, Dance Montage is one of the longest-running events at the U of C, featuring original choreography by almost 200 faculty and community choreographers and performed by 2,000 dancers. For its 40th anniversary edition (performances are Nov. 26-28), 40 current Kinesiology majors and alumni are sought to perform in the show. Professor Emeritus Shirley Murray will choreograph an original work celebrating the involvement of kinesiology students in Dance Montage. Governments fund Schulich School capital upgrades
The U of C was awarded $9 million from the Government of Canada and $14.4 million from the Government of Alberta towards the first phase of capital upgrades to the engineering complex, which will include modernization of building facilities and refurbishing labs, classrooms, offices and student gathering space.
