Alumnus on a mission of Canadian firsts

Canadian astronaut Robert Thirsk, BSc'76, says the best thing about his upcoming space mission is that he gets to spend six months aboard the International Space Station. It's also the worst part of his mission, scheduled to begin with a launch on May 27 from Baikonur, Kazakhstan. Robert returned to campus on Feb. 17 to make his last Canadian public appearance before blasting off aboard a Russian Soyuz vehicle.

National search for law student mentors

The Faculty of Law and Career Services are seeking law alumni from across the country to volunteer as part of a mentorship database. The records would be available to students in the Faculty of Law who are interested in practicing in specific regions and, potentially, in specific practice areas. The database will offer students interested in practicing in various regions across the country insight into specific markets. Legacy giving made easier

It's now easier to leave a legacy gift to the U of C following the dissolution of the University of Calgary Foundation (1999). Having a separate foundation at times created confusion in the community and some duplication of effort. Downtown Campus will open doors in 2010

The U of C has finalized the site of its new Downtown Campus, which will welcome its first students in September 2010. The new site, located at 906 8th Ave. SW, in the western end of the core, will house students in a variety of programs. "The Downtown Campus will offer students new and exciting experiences, deepen our engagement with the community, and free up space on our main campus," said Harvey Weingarten, university president and vice-chancellor.
