Kate Wood


Biography

Kate Wood is a recently retired lawyer, having received her law degree from the University of Calgary in 1990.   The excellent legal education received from the University of Calgary's faculty of Law, enabled Kate to enjoy a small firm, private law practice for almost 25 years and in 2008 she was designated Queen’s Counsel.

Community service has been an integral part of Kate’s life.  Some past community highlights have included:  

  • Calgary’s United Way board,
  • Chair U.N.I.C.E.F.’s Halloween campaign for Calgary and Alberta,      
  • national President/Chair Board of Governors Canadian Red Cross, and  
  • Calgary and Area Child and Family Services Authority Board, Aboriginal, Governance and Sustainable Resources /Audit Committees.

In 2012, Kate became a public member of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta's Council, where she currently serves as Vice President.

Married with three children and two grandchildren, Kate is grateful for her family. She warmly welcomes the opportunity to contribute to the University of Calgary both through the Chancellor's Club, community engagement and committees of the Senate.
