Mary Ellen Neilson


Biography

Mary Ellen Neilson is the Executive Director at the Association for the Rehabilitation of the Brain Injured (“ARBI”), a non-profit agency that leverages the time and talents of university students and other volunteers, who are supported by medical therapists to assist in the delivery of rehabilitation for people who have suffered a severe brain injury. Prior to joining ARBI, Mary Ellen recently retired from a successful 30+ year career in financial services at BMO, where she led teams in wealth management, credit underwriting, and private equity across the Prairies.

Mary Ellen is a Certified Management Accountant with a Masters of Business Administration from York University. She also holds the ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors.

In the community, Mary Ellen has served on the Board of Directors for the Art Gallery of Alberta, the Board of Governors for the Glenbow Museum, and was a member of the Audit and Risk Committee for CMA Alberta. She also served six years on the Board of Directors for the YWCA of Calgary, including two years as Board Chair.

Mary Ellen grew up in a farm family north of Calgary, and the University of Calgary is her alma mater (B Comm 1980).  Mary Ellen is looking forward to serving on the senate for the University of Calgary, leveraging her experience and connections in the Calgary business community and non-profit sector.
